South Florida School of Excellence “Safety Patrol” membership is a position of honor.  Millions of boys and girls served since the nationwide movement started in the early 1920's.  Fourth grade students have the opportunity to serve as a Safety Patrol.

Upper elementary, middle and high school teachers will nominate students that exhibit leadership and responsibility skills.

The students are then placed on a patrol.  In the morning, safety patrols have a number of duties which include raising the flag, assisting in the cafeteria and gym, and keeping an eye on the students to make sure that rules are followed.

On the afternoon patrol, they assist with all aspects of dismissal, making sure that the students remain safe.

As a reward to the safety patrols for their hours of service, South Florida School of Excellence organizes a yearly trip to Washington D.C.
